Mini Review: Alienated by Melissa Landers 29/12/14

Title: Alienated
Author: Melissa Landers
Publisher: Hyperion
Page Count: 344

Goodreads Synopsis:

Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.

Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she’ll have inside information about the mysterious L’eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara’s blog following is about to skyrocket.

Still, Cara isn’t sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L’eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn’t seem more alien. She’s certain about one thing, though: no human boy is this good-looking.

But when Cara's classmates get swept up by anti-L'eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn't safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara's locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.

Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn’t just her only friend; she's fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life—not just for herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.

I did enjoy this book but it was definitely not what I expected. I expected this book to be a fun read, not serious and just about an alien coming to earth and having a fun time but boy was I wrong.

This book mainly focused on discovering the idea of what would happen if aliens did come to earth and it is very realistic. It focuses on how people would react if aliens came to Earth and also what the differences could be between humans and aliens.

This book is a lot more Sci-Fi than I imagined because there is a lot of science related things in this book and it was not the fun light book that I was imagining. There were scenes where the main character Cara was in so much danger because of the alien and it became really serious.

As for the relationship in this book, I wasn't totally into it but I did think it was cute but not too developed even though that may have meant the book dragged on for a bit. Both of the characters were well developed especially Aelyx (the alien) because he was a very diverse character and it seems that it took a while to fully understand Aelyx and his race because of how different and well developed he was.

The book was enjoyable throughout the entire book but the last 50 or so pages I was just desperately trying to finish because for some reason that even I do not know I just desperately wanted to finish it and the last 50 pages seemed to go on forever even though things were happening.

This book was enjoyable and good and I will pick up the sequel but I just had a few issues with it which is why I gave it a 4/5 stars but I do recommend for people who want a serious Sci-Fi book and not something that explores the comical side of sending aliens to Earth.

That's all for this weeks mini review! I hope you enjoyed and I'll see you next week!

Happy Reading!
